Itálica is in the town of Santiponce just north of Seville. Tips for Visiting Italica #
- Go early in the morning (or late afternoon in summer) to avoid Seville-area heat and tour groups and to get clearer light on the amphitheatre and mosaics.
- Enter through the main archaeological site entrance at Santiponce and allow time to visit the small on-site museum (Museo de Itálica) to see mosaics and sculpture that are not left in situ.
- After seeing the amphitheatre, walk the quieter back streets of the excavated city to find well-preserved house mosaics (for example the House of the Birds) and higher viewpoints that are often overlooked by coach visitors.
