Istana Bogor is a presidential palace in the city of Bogor, West Java, Indonesia, originally constructed during the Dutch colonial era as a country residence. It stands on extensive grounds noted for mature tropical plantings and proximity to major botanical gardens.

The palace complex includes the main official residence and large, landscaped grounds with formal gardens, specimen trees and ornamental features. The adjacent Bogor Botanical Gardens provide public access to an extensive collection of tropical and subtropical plants.

Constructed in the mid-18th century as a colonial governor’s residence, the site later became a presidential palace after Indonesian independence and has been used by successive heads of state for official functions and as a summer retreat. The grounds and buildings reflect layers of colonial and republican-era modification.

Istana Bogor stands in central Bogor city in West Java, about an hour by road from Jakarta depending on traffic, and directly adjoins the Bogor Botanical Gardens.

Bogor is approximately 60-90 minutes by car from central Jakarta depending on traffic. Regular commuter trains run from Jakarta’s Bogor Line to Bogor Station; the palace and gardens are a short taxi ride or a 20-30 minute walk from the station.

• Visit the palace gardens early in the morning when the light is soft and fewer visitors are present.
• Check in advance for any official events or closures-the palace is still used for state functions and can be closed to the public.
• Combine a visit with Bogor Botanical Gardens, adjacent to the palace grounds, for a fuller day of historic gardens and tropical plant collections.
