How to Get to Ischia
Ischia is reached by flying into Naples International (NAP) and completing the trip by ferry or hydrofoil from Naples or nearby Pozzuoli. The island has no airport, so plan a train/taxi or shuttle from the airport to the port and then a boat crossing.
Naples International Airport (NAP): From NAP take the Alibus shuttle to Molo Beverello (ticket ~€5, 20-30 min) or a taxi (about 20-30 min). From Molo Beverello there are regular hydrofoils (SNAV/Alilauro) to Ischia (approx. 40-60 min, roughly €15-€25 one-way) and conventional car ferries (Caremar/Snav from Pozzuoli or Molo Beverello; ~60-90+ min, about €10-€20 depending on vehicle).
Rome Fiumicino (FCO) / Ciampino (CIA): If flying into Rome, take a high-speed train to Napoli Centrale (Frecce ~1h10-1h30, fares vary widely) then transfer by taxi or Alibus to Molo Beverello and continue by ferry as above. Expect total travel time from Rome to Ischia around 3-4 hours door to door.
Train: Naples’ main rail hub is Napoli Centrale. From Napoli Centrale you can reach the port area by taxi or the Alibus shuttle (to Molo Beverello). High‑speed trains from Rome/Florence/Milan terminate at Napoli Centrale (travel times and fares vary). There is no direct train to Ischia - you must combine train + ferry.
Bus / Local ferries: Buses and local coaches (EAV/SITA) connect Naples with Pozzuoli and other ports used for ferries to Ischia; a local bus to Pozzuoli takes ~30-40 min and costs a few euros. On Ischia, public buses (EAV service) link main towns and beaches; expect short local journeys for a few euros or less.
How to Get Around Ischia #
Ischia is an island, so the main access is by ferry or hydrofoil from Naples, Pozzuoli and nearby islands; ferries carry cars while hydrofoils are faster for foot passengers. On the island, regular EAV buses connect Ischia Porto, Forio, Casamicciola and other towns, and short taxi rides or scooter rentals are common for flexible trips. Towns like Ischia Porto and Forio are compact and pleasant to walk around; expect to pay more for taxis and tourist-season tickets for hydrofoils (book in summer). Bring cash for smaller bus runs and check schedules in advance during low season.
