The Institut du monde arabe (Arab World Institute) in Paris is a cultural and research institution dedicated to the arts, culture and scholarship of the Arab world. The building, designed by Jean Nouvel and opened in 1987, is notable for a south-facing mechanical facade which moderates daylight.
Inside are exhibition galleries, a library and spaces for lectures and cultural programming that present rotating exhibitions, contemporary art and historical displays. Galleries cover topics from history and literature to visual arts and design.
The institute was established by a consortium of Arab states and France to promote cultural exchange and scholarship and opened its purpose-built premises in the late 20th century.
It is located on the Left Bank of the Seine in Paris, near the Latin Quarter and within the city’s central cultural district.

The Institut du Monde Arabe is on the Seine’s left bank in Paris’s 5th arrondissement. The nearest Métro stop is Jussieu (lines 7 and 10), about a 4-6 minute walk; Sully-Morland (line 7) is also within a short walk across the river.
From central Paris by car follow Boulevard Saint‑Germain/Quai Saint‑Bernard to the institute; note that driving and parking are limited in this part of the city.
