Tips for Visiting Illimani #
- Visit during the Bolivian dry season (roughly May-October) for the clearest views from La Paz and El Alto; early morning outings give the best chance of seeing Illimani free of cloud.
- For the classic city viewpoint, head up to El Alto or well-known miradores around La Paz at dawn-these vantage points provide the iconic panorama of Illimani towering over the city without the haze that builds later in the day.
- If you plan to climb, only go with experienced, locally based high-altitude guides and make several days of acclimatization in La Paz beforehand; Illimani is a technical, high-altitude mountaineering objective, not a casual trek.
