Tips for Visiting Ile-Alatau National Park #

  • Go early on weekday mornings (before 09:00) to beat the large weekend day-trippers from Almaty and to enjoy quieter trails and parking near popular access points such as Medeu and Big Almaty Lake.
  • Start hikes from established access roads (for example the Medeu-Shymbulak road or the Big Almaty Lake access) where marked trails and parking are provided; these are the usual gateways used by local guides and park staff.
  • Plan visits outside mid‑afternoon in summer-mountain areas in the Alatau commonly develop quick convective storms later in the day, so mornings give more stable weather for vistas and photography.
