How to Get to Ignalina
Ignalina is best reached by bus from Vilnius or regional towns; the town has no practical passenger rail links. Coaches are frequent and the most straightforward public option.
Vilnius Airport (VNO): Vilnius is the main international gateway for Ignalina. From VNO take a bus or taxi to Vilnius bus station (about 10-20 minutes, airport bus ~€1.50-2) and then an intercity coach to Ignalina (around 1.5-2 hours, fares typically €6-€12).
Kaunas Airport (KUN): Kaunas is a secondary option with fewer international routes. From Kaunas you’ll need a coach or train to Vilnius and then a bus to Ignalina (total time usually longer and connections fewer than from Vilnius).
Train: There is no regular passenger rail service directly serving Ignalina; rail is not a practical option for the town.
Bus: Intercity buses from Vilnius, Utena and other regional centres are the standard public transport to Ignalina. The Vilnius-Ignalina coach takes roughly 1.5-2 hours and is the most reliable and frequent connection-book or check timetables in advance, especially outside peak season.
