Horton Plains National Park is a high-elevation protected plateau in Sri Lanka’s central highlands combining montane cloud forest and montane grassland. It is noted for dramatic escarpments and distinctive montane biodiversity.

The area was set aside for conservation to protect its unique highland ecosystems and water catchments, and it has been managed as a national park for conservation and recreation. Scientific surveys have emphasised the park’s importance for endemic species.

Horton Plains sits in the central highlands of Sri Lanka at high elevation, with access from surrounding hill-country towns and roads that climb into the plateau.
