Historic Centre of Morelia is the well-preserved colonial core of the city of Morelia in Michoacán, notable for its Baroque architecture and regular Spanish grid layout established in the 16th century. The centre retains many monumental religious and civic buildings set around formal plazas.

The city was founded in the mid-16th century as a Spanish colonial settlement and developed through the 17th and 18th centuries with extensive ecclesiastical and civic construction. It was renamed Morelia in the 19th century in honour of independence leader José María Morelos.

Morelia’s historic centre sits in the heart of Morelia city and is easily reached on foot from the city’s bus and rail terminals. Long‑distance buses from Mexico City and other major Mexican cities (operators such as ADO, Primera Plus and ETN) arrive at Morelia’s central bus terminal; from there the historic centre is a short taxi ride or a 10-20 minute walk.

Morelia also has an airport (General Francisco J. Mujica) with taxi and shuttle connections to the city. By road Morelia is roughly 300 km west of Mexico City (a 3-4 hour drive depending on route and traffic).
