Hie Shrine

Hie Shrine (Hie Jinja) is a Shinto shrine located in central Tokyo’s government district, in the Nagatachō/Akasaka area. It is known as an urban shrine with a long history and active religious calendar.

The site features a main shrine complex with traditional Shinto architecture and a prominent approach with vermilion torii gates and stone steps. The shrine is associated with the Sanno Matsuri, a major local festival held in early summer.

The shrine dates back several centuries and has been an established place of worship in Edo and modern Tokyo. It maintains regular Shinto rituals and seasonal festivals and serves as a local spiritual site in the city.

Hie Shrine sits inside central Tokyo near the Diet Building and other government offices, within walking distance of stations such as Akasaka-mitsuke and Tameike-sanno, making it readily accessible from central Tokyo.
