How to Get to Hévíz#
Hévíz (near Lake Balaton) is most easily reached via Budapest (BUD) or the seasonal Hévíz-Balaton airport (SOB). The nearest train hub is Keszthely; from there a short bus or taxi brings you to Hévíz and its famous thermal lake.
Budapest Ferenc Liszt Airport (BUD): Budapest is the main international gateway for Hévíz. From BUD take a train to Keszthely (via Budapest Keleti/Hungarian Railways MÁV) - total travel time is about 2.5-3.5 hours depending on connections; fares vary but expect €15-€35 for standard tickets.
FlyBalaton / Hévíz-Balaton Airport (SOB): Hévíz-Balaton (Sármellék) is the closest airport (seasonal/charter). From the airport a shuttle or taxi to Hévíz town/Keszthely takes about 20-30 minutes; taxi fares roughly €20-€40 depending on time and luggage.
Train: The nearest railway station is Keszthely (Keszthely vasútállomás), about 8 km from Hévíz. Trains run from Budapest and Szombathely to Keszthely; travel time from Budapest ~2.5-3.5 hours. From Keszthely take a local bus or taxi to Hévíz (10-15 minutes).
Bus: Regular buses and shuttle services connect Keszthely and Hévíz (single local bus/taxi about €1-€4, 10-15 minutes). Intercity buses from Szombathely or other regional centres also stop at Hévíz.
How to Get Around Hévíz#
Hévíz is accessed via Keszthely station (short shuttle/taxi) or directly by regional buses. For full flexibility around Lake Balaton, hire a car or a bike; within Hévíz walking covers most needs.
