Herald Square

Herald Square is a public square in Midtown Manhattan, New York City, located at the intersection of Broadway, Sixth Avenue and 34th Street. It is a major commercial and transit node in central Manhattan.

The square is best known for the large Macy’s flagship department store at 151 West 34th Street and for heavy pedestrian and transit use. It functions as a focal point for shopping and as a hub connecting several subway lines.

The site takes its name from the former New York Herald building that once stood nearby and has long been a commercial center. Streetscape changes and pedestrian plaza installations in the 2000s reconfigured vehicle and foot traffic to create expanded public spaces.
