How to Get to Hendaye#
Hendaye sits on the Franco‑Spanish border with good rail links (Gare d’Hendaye) to Bayonne, Biarritz and San Sebastián and is accessible from nearby airports in Biarritz and San Sebastián. The train is the most convenient way to arrive and to cross into Spain.
Biarritz Pays Basque Airport (BIQ): Biarritz is the closest airport (about 35-40 km west of Hendaye). From BIQ you can take a shuttle or taxi to Hendaye via road (travel time ~30-50 minutes) or travel via Bayonne/Biarritz and continue by regional train.
San Sebastián (EAS) / Bilbao (BIO): San Sebastián and Bilbao airports in Spain are alternatives; from either airport you can reach Hendaye by bus or train with transfer in San Sebastián or Irun (total travel time 40-90 minutes depending on route).
Train: Hendaye station (Gare d’Hendaye) is on the French-Spanish border with direct connections to Bayonne, Biarritz, San Sebastián and long‑distance services (including TGVs to Paris/South‑West France in season). Local Euskotren / RENFE services run across the border; Hendaye-Bayonne ~20-30 minutes.
Bus: Local buses and regional coaches connect Hendaye with nearby beach resorts and inland towns. Buses complement rail for local journeys and beach access.
