About Hector Lake

Hector Lake is a glacial lake in Banff National Park, Alberta, Canada, located in the Canadian Rockies. It occupies a valley in the Bow River watershed and is fed by glacial melt and mountain streams.

The lake is framed by steep mountain slopes and peaks, including those that give the area its rugged alpine character, and is visible from the Icefields Parkway (Highway 93) with turnouts that allow visitors to stop for views and photographs. The water and surrounding terrain reflect typical glacial-lake features such as clear, cold water and morainal deposits.

Hector Lake was formed by glacial processes that shaped the surrounding mountains and valleys; it lies entirely within Banff National Park and is part of the protected park landscape.

Geographically it is on the Banff National Park side of the Icefields Parkway in Alberta, north of Lake Louise and accessible by vehicle and short walks from roadside pullouts.
