Hammada du Guir is a stony desert plateau (hamada) in Béchar Province in southwestern Algeria. The term “hamada” denotes a rock-strewn, largely vegetation-free surface typical of Saharan landscapes, and the Guir name associates the area with the wider Guir valley and border region.
The terrain is characterized by hard, rocky surfaces rather than sand dunes and forms part of the Sahara’s interior plateaus. Settlements and major roads are sparse; the landscape is remote and arid.
Geographically it sits in western Algeria’s Saharan zone within Béchar Province, an area of broad desert plateaus and occasional dry riverbeds.
