Hamburger Bahnhof is a museum of contemporary art in Berlin’s Mitte district housed in a converted 19th‑century railway terminus. The site reopened as a museum for contemporary art in 1996 and is part of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.

Large exhibition halls occupy the former train shed and platform areas, presenting a permanent collection of art from the late 20th century to the present alongside temporary shows. Galleries accommodate painting, sculpture, installation and media work across expansive, high‑ceilinged spaces that are suited to large-scale contemporary pieces.

The building was originally constructed in the mid‑19th century as a railway terminus and was later repurposed for museum use; substantial conversion work was completed before the museum opened in 1996. Since then it has served as one of Berlin’s principal venues for post‑1960 art.

The museum sits in the Moabit/Invalidenstraße area of central Berlin, close to major transport links and other museums in the Mitte borough.
