Platz der Republik is a public square in central Berlin located immediately adjacent to the Reichstag building. The open lawn and paved areas form part of the parliamentary quarter in the Tiergarten/Mitte area.

The square provides open views of the western façade of the Reichstag and is often used for public gatherings, demonstrations, and events related to civic life. Paths and lawns offer pedestrian access and viewpoints across the building and its surrounding greenery.

The area has been reshaped several times over the 19th and 20th centuries as Berlin’s political centre evolved; its current role is tied closely to the presence of the Reichstag and the German Bundestag. The square has served both ceremonial and public assembly functions.

Platz der Republik sits on the western side of the Reichstag in Berlin’s central district, within the Tiergarten area and a short walk from Brandenburger Tor and other central landmarks.

Platz der Republik sits directly in front of the Reichstag in Berlin Mitte. The easiest public-transit access is to Berlin Hauptbahnhof (long‑distance and S‑Bahn services) - it’s a 10-15 minute walk south across the Spree to Platz der Republik. Alternatively take the U5 to Brandenburger Tor and walk 5 minutes; tourist buses (e.g. bus 100/200) also stop nearby.

• If you plan to visit the Reichstag dome, reserve the free timed slot online well in advance and arrive at the designated visitors' entrance on Platz der Republik at least 20-30 minutes early for security checks.
• Visit early on a weekday morning or late evening to avoid the busiest tourist periods and the coach groups that arrive midday from central Berlin; parliamentary sittings or special events can also increase security and restrict access.
