How to Get to Halwan#
Halwan (Sharjah area) is reached via Sharjah International Airport for the shortest transfers or via Dubai International for more flight options. From either airport use taxis, inter-emirate buses or private transfers to reach your final destination.
Dubai International Airport (DXB): A major international hub close to Sharjah; from Dubai you can reach Sharjah and nearby towns by taxi (30-60 minutes) or by bus. Taxis from DXB to Sharjah typically cost AED 80-160 depending on destination.
Sharjah International Airport (SHJ): The closest airport for the Emirate of Sharjah. Taxis from SHJ to local areas in Sharjah are quick (15-40 minutes) and relatively inexpensive compared with Dubai-origin fares.
Train: The UAE is developing rail networks but there is not yet a national passenger rail service covering Sharjah; rail is not currently a practical option for intracity travel in the emirate.
Bus: The Emirate and inter-emirate buses connect Sharjah with Dubai and other emirates. The Roads & Transport Authority (RTA) in Dubai and Sharjah’s bus services run routes between main terminals; fares are economical and buses run frequently on major corridors.
How to Get Around Halwan#
Taxis and private transfers are the easiest way to get around Sharjah from the airport; buses are a cheaper alternative for main corridors. Rent a car if you plan to travel frequently between emirates or to industrial outskirts.
- Taxi / ride-hail (AED 20-200) - Taxis and ride-hail apps (Careem, Uber) are the most convenient way to reach precise addresses in Sharjah and nearby towns. Taxis are metered for most inner-emirate journeys; fares increase for cross-emirate trips and airport pickups (surcharges may apply).
- Inter-emirate bus (AED 3-12) - Public buses between Dubai and Sharjah and intra-Sharjah routes are an economical option for commuters. Buses are comfortable and air-conditioned; use Nol or regional card systems as applicable. Frequency is good on main corridors but lower in outer suburbs.
- Car rental (AED 120-350/day) - Renting a car gives maximum flexibility; roads are well-maintained and driving between emirates is straightforward but be mindful of tolls and parking regulations. Ensure your rental includes insurance covering inter-emirate travel.
- Local minibuses - Shared minibuses and private shuttles serve some communities and industrial areas; they can be cheap and frequent but routes may be less well-documented to outsiders. Ask locally for boarding points and regular schedules.
- Motorbike / private hire - Motorbike taxis are not common; private motorbike hire or deliveries are more typical. Use licensed providers for safety and insurance clarity.
- Walking - Town centres and commercial districts in Sharjah are walkable for short trips; in hotter months avoid long walks during midday and use shaded routes where possible.
