Gunung Gede

Gunung Gede is a stratovolcano in West Java, Indonesia, whose summit reaches 2,958 meters above sea level. It forms part of the Gede Pangrango National Park and is paired with the adjacent Mount Pangrango as a major highland and biodiversity area in western Java.

Hikers use established trails from trailheads such as Cibodas to reach the summit, often as an overnight trek to catch sunrise. The mountain’s slopes include montane rainforest, mossy cloud forest and higher-elevation meadows and crater features, and the park is noted for plant and bird diversity.

The volcano is part of a protected national park established to conserve the area’s flora and fauna and to regulate recreational use. Visitor management typically includes registration at park offices or trailheads and marked routes to the summit.

Gunung Gede lies in West Java, within reach of the greater Bogor area and Jakarta region; it is one of the principal highland hiking destinations for residents of West Java.
