How to Get to Gunung Gede #
From Jakarta: take the commuter train (KRL) to Bogor station (approximately 1-1.5 hours). From Bogor, minibuses/angkots and regular private transport run to Cibodas (about 45-60 minutes). Trailheads (Cibodas, Gunung Putri, Selabintana) have park offices where registration and basic permits are handled.
Tips for Visiting Gunung Gede #
- If climbing, register at the Cibodas park office and hire a local porter or guide - trails can be slippery after rain.
- Start before dawn from Cibodas to avoid afternoon storms and to catch cloud inversion views over Jakarta's plain.
- Bring layered rain gear and a headlamp if attempting summit pre-dawn; temperatures at the ridge can be near freezing.
