Gülhane Park is a historical urban park on Istanbul’s historic peninsula, directly adjacent to the outer grounds of Topkapi Palace. It originates in the Ottoman imperial gardens and was opened to the public in the early 20th century.
Shaded promenades, lawns and mature plane and oak trees form the park’s main attractions; paths wind between green spaces, small monuments and kiosks. The park sits within easy walking distance of the Hagia Sophia, the Istanbul Archaeology Museums and Sultanahmet square, making it a common route for visitors moving between those sites.
The area served as part of the palace grounds during the Ottoman era and later was developed for public use under late Ottoman and early Republican administrations. The park has been renovated and replanted several times while retaining its role as a major urban green space.
Located on the historic peninsula (Sultanahmet) near the Sea of Marmara, Gülhane Park lies between Topkapi Palace and the waterfront, within short walking distance of Eminönü and many central Istanbul landmarks.

Gülhane Park sits adjacent to Sultanahmet on Istanbul’s European side and is directly served by the T1 tram line - alight at Gülhane or Sultanahmet tram stops and walk 1-5 minutes into the park. The Marmaray/Sirkeci rail station is about a 5-10 minute walk away, and ferries to Eminönü are a short 5-10 minute walk; if driving, approach via the Atatürk Bridge/Eminönü area and local Sultanahmet streets (central Istanbul driving is slow and parking is limited).

- Arrive via the Gülhane tram stop (T1 line) or on foot from Sultanahmet to avoid the heavier traffic around the larger Topkapı gates; the park is directly adjacent to Topkapı Palace so combine visits to reduce walking between sights.
- Visit early in the morning or late afternoon to escape the peak mid-day tour-group surge; the tree-lined promenades and quieter paths along the old city walls are best enjoyed outside peak hours.
