Guimaras is an island province in the Western Visayas region of the Philippines located between the larger islands of Panay and Negros. The province is notable nationally for its agricultural production, especially mangoes.

Travel to the island is commonly made by ferry from Iloilo City to the provincial capital, and the island offers coastal beaches, small fishing communities and rural landscapes. Visitors frequent the island for beaches, local food and agricultural tourism.

Administratively the province comprises several municipalities including the capital of Jordan and other coastal towns that manage ferry access and tourism services. Guimaras sits in the central Philippines within the Visayan archipelago, separated from Panay by a narrow channel.

  • Mango production: Renowned across the Philippines for its mango production, the island is commonly associated with sweet mango varieties sold nationally.

What to See #

  • Jordan (capital): Jordan is the provincial capital and primary ferry gateway to the island from Iloilo on Panay; it contains the main port and municipal services.
  • Coastal municipalities: Nueva Valencia and other coastal municipalities host many of the island's beaches and marine access points used by visitors and local fishermen.

How to Get to Guimaras #

Guimaras is an island province off Iloilo on Panay Island; the usual public approach is by ferry or pump‑boat from Iloilo City across the Iloilo Strait to ports on Guimaras (Jordan is the main passenger landing). Fast ferries and regular boat services run between Iloilo and Guimaras; from the Guimaras wharf you can continue by tricycle, motorcycle taxi or local bus to resorts and attractions on the island.

Tips for Visiting Guimaras #

  • Plan your visit during mango season (April-May) if you want markets and roadside stalls at their peak; for quiet beaches and sandbars, choose weekdays and early-morning boat trips rather than weekend crossings from Iloilo.
  • Ferries and pump boats run regularly from Iloilo City to Guimaras (Jordan and Buenavista are the main island landings); arriving via the fast ferry or public pumpboat early in the day gives you more time for island-hopping and avoids the later surge of day-trippers.
  • Many visitors stick to the main resorts-book a local island-hopping tour that includes lesser-known sandbars and small fishing villages to see local mango farms and quieter swimming spots away from the main beach clusters.
