The Guangzhou Opera House is a major performing arts venue in Guangzhou, Guangdong province, China. Designed by architect Zaha Hadid and completed in 2010, it is one of the city’s signature contemporary buildings.
The complex houses performance spaces for opera, ballet, and orchestral concerts and features a dramatic glass-and-stone exterior that frames riverfront views. Public areas and plazas around the building are commonly used for photography and approach views of the architecture.
Commissioned as part of Guangzhou’s cultural development in the early 21st century, the opera house was designed by an international architect and opened to the public in 2010. It has since hosted domestic and international performing arts productions.
Located in Zhujiang New Town on the Pearl River waterfront in central Guangzhou, the opera house is within the city’s new commercial and cultural district and accessible by public transit.
