Gradačac Castle

Gran Roque is the principal inhabited island and administrative center of the Los Roques archipelago, part of Venezuela’s Federal Dependencies, and serves as the archipelago’s main base for visitors and local residents.

The settlement on the island is compact, with guesthouses, restaurants and a dock area; it is the primary departure point for boat excursions to nearby sandbanks, coral cays and snorkeling or diving sites.

The island developed as a fishing community and later grew in importance as tourism expanded after the archipelago became a protected area and destination for reef-based activities.

Gran Roque lies in the Caribbean Sea within the Los Roques group, surrounded by reefs and dozens of uninhabited islets, and is reachable by scheduled light-aircraft services and by sea.
