How to Get to Ghorahi
Ghorahi (Dang district) is commonly reached via the nearby Tulsipur/Dang domestic airport (DNP) with a short road transfer, or by long-distance bus from Nepalgunj and other Terai hubs. Road travel is central to getting around the region.
Dang Airport / Tulsipur (DNP): Dang/Tulsipur Airport (also referred to as Tulsipur Airport) is the closest domestic airport to Ghorahi in Dang district; it offers scheduled domestic flights that connect with Kathmandu and other Nepali hubs. From the airport it is a road transfer of roughly 30-60 minutes to Ghorahi depending on traffic and exact pickup point.
Nepalgunj Airport (KTM regional connections via flights): Nepalgunj (not an international hub like Kathmandu) is another regional gateway with frequent flights from Kathmandu; road transfers from Nepalgunj to Ghorahi are longer (several hours) and are less convenient than using Tulsipur/Dang where available.
Train: Nepal has no nationwide passenger rail network serving this region.
Bus: Regular intercity buses connect Ghorahi with Nepalgunj and with larger hubs such as Butwal and Tulsipur. Buses range from local slower services to more comfortable tourist coaches; travel times vary (e.g., Nepalgunj-Ghorahi by road is typically several hours).
How to Get Around Ghorahi #
Ghorahi’s town centre is walkable for short trips; motorbike taxis, local vans and buses are commonly used for getting around the city. Shared buses and microbuses run to nearby towns and to larger hubs like Nepalgunj and Butwal. Taxis and motorbike taxis are plentiful but fares are negotiable; expect local short-ride fares to be inexpensive in NPR terms. Roads can be busy and chaotic, so allow extra time for journeys and keep small change for fares.
