Gesuati is the popular name for the Church of Santa Maria del Rosario in Venice’s Dorsoduro district, commonly referred to as I Gesuati. It is an 18th-century Baroque church built for a religious confraternity and notable for its decorative program.
The present church was constructed in the first half of the 18th century to serve the confraternity known as the Gesuati; its design and decoration date to that period and reflect Venetian artistic production of the time. Earlier religious buildings on the site were replaced by the current Baroque structure.
The church stands in the Dorsoduro sestiere of Venice on the waterfront facing the Grand Canal entrance to the Giudecca Canal, within easy walking distance of museums such as the Punta della Dogana and the Gallerie dell’Accademia.
