St. Martin's Church Religious Site

St. Martin’s Church is a late Gothic parish church in Landshut, Bavaria. Construction began in 1389 and its brick tower rises to 130.6 metres, a record height for a brick church tower.

The building is best known for its soaring tower and its large Gothic hall interior. The tower dominates the town skyline and the church’s massing and brickwork are classic examples of Bavarian Gothic architecture.

Work on the church began in the late 14th century and continued through the 15th and into the early 16th century; it has served as the principal parish church of Landshut since the medieval period. Over the centuries the interior and fittings have been altered and restored, but the overall Gothic form remains.

The church stands in the historic centre of Landshut on the river Isar, in Lower Bavaria. Landshut is roughly 60-75 km northeast of Munich by road.
