Geojedo

Geojedo (Geoje Island) is a large island off South Korea’s southeastern coast in South Gyeongsang Province, noted for its extensive shipbuilding industry and coastal tourist attractions. Industrial ports and yard complexes coexist with scenic coastal sites.

The island hosts major shipyards and port facilities around Okpo and the southern coasts, and a tourism circuit that includes botanical gardens, coastal cliffs, beaches and ferry links to small offshore islets. Tourist highlights include formal gardens on nearby Oedo and scenic viewpoints along the coast.

Modern Geoje grew in significance during the 20th and 21st centuries with the development of heavy shipbuilding industry and port infrastructure. The Busan-Geoje Bridge, opened in the 21st century, improved road connections to Busan and supported economic growth.

Geoje lies off the southeastern tip of the Korean peninsula, within South Gyeongsang Province, and is connected to the mainland by major bridge links to the Busan region.
