Castle Remaining tower of Vilnius Upper Castle with city views
Perched on Gediminas Hill, Gediminas’ Tower is the surviving red‑brick remnant of the Upper Castle; tourists climb for museum exhibits and panoramic views across Vilnius’ rooftops.
Gediminas’s Tower is the remaining tower of the Upper Castle in Vilnius and a widely recognised symbol of the city and of Lithuania. The brick tower stands atop Castle Hill and contains an exhibition on the castle and city history.
Visitors typically climb the hill to the tower for the views over the Old Town, the Neris River and Cathedral Square; the tower itself provides a compact exhibition space about the medieval castle and its historical role. The site is frequently included on walks around the historic centre.
The tower is the surviving element of a larger medieval castle complex that stood on Castle Hill; the defensive complex was built and modified in medieval times and later fell into partial ruin. The tower has been conserved and adapted to display historical material for visitors.
