About Galleria d'arte moderna di Milano#
The Galleria d’arte moderna di Milano (GAM Milano) is a civic gallery in Milan devoted primarily to 19th- and early 20th-century art. The collection is displayed within the historic Neoclassical Villa Reale on Via Palestro.
The museum’s permanent galleries present works across painting and sculpture from the 1800s and early 1900s, and the institution also hosts temporary exhibitions and loans. The villa’s period rooms and formal layout shape the presentation of the collection.
The gallery developed through municipal acquisitions and donations over the 19th and 20th centuries to form Milan’s main public repository for modern-era art prior to the modern and contemporary periods. It continues to function as a public museum with rotating exhibitions and educational programmes.
The villa sits near the centre of Milan, on Via Palestro, within walking distance of the city’s core cultural and transport hubs.
