How to Get to Gali (town)

Gali lies in the Abkhazia region where travel and transport are affected by political realities. Access is often routed via Zugdidi and is subject to checkpoints, restrictions and changing conditions-travelers should obtain current official advice before planning a visit.

By Air

Tbilisi International Airport (TBS) / Kutaisi (KUT): Access to Gali is complicated by the political situation in Abkhazia. For visitors entering Georgia proper, the main international airports are Tbilisi and Kutaisi; from there you can travel to Zugdidi by road (several hours) and then onward to the Abkhazia administrative area.

Sukhumi Babushara Airport (SUI): Sukhumi (Babushera) airport exists inside Abkhazia but is not generally available for international scheduled services recognized by Georgia; access and flights are subject to political and practical restrictions.

By Train & Bus

Train: Rail services within Abkhazia have been resumed on some domestic routes (e.g., Sukhumi to Ochamchire), but international rail links and schedules are irregular and subject to change. Travelers should consult up-to-date local sources.

Bus / Marshrutka: Road access from Zugdidi toward the Abkhazian administrative boundary is the usual route; beyond that point services into Gali are irregular and politically sensitive. Local minibuses operate within Abkhazia but schedules and border formalities can be unpredictable.
