Freud Museum London

The Freud Museum in London is housed in Sigmund Freud’s final family home at 20 Maresfield Gardens, Hampstead, where Freud lived after leaving Vienna in 1938. The house preserves Freud’s study and many original furnishings and objects.

The principal highlight is Freud’s consulting room with the psychoanalytic couch and desk, preserved as a central display. The museum also exhibits Freud’s collection of antiquities and personal library, and runs temporary exhibitions and events related to psychoanalysis and Freud’s work.

Sigmund Freud and his family moved to the Maresfield Gardens house in 1938 after fleeing Nazi-occupied Austria; Freud died in London in 1939. The house was later converted into a museum to preserve his study and collections and to present his life and work to the public.
