How to Get to Freeport
Freeport on Grand Bahama Island is served by Grand Bahama International Airport (FPO); it's a short drive to the main resort and harbour areas. Visitors also arrive by ferry from Nassau or by private yacht to Port Lucaya.
Grand Bahama International Airport (FPO): Taxis and private shuttles meet flights at the small terminal; a taxi into central Freeport/Port Lucaya typically takes about 10-20 minutes and costs roughly USD 15-25. Rental cars are available on-site for exploring the island.
Nassau (via ferry): While Nassau (Lynden Pindling International Airport, NAS) is on New Providence, regular fast-ferry and passenger-boat services run between Nassau and Freeport; crossing times are around 3-4 hours and commercial ferry fares are commonly in the USD 50-80 range.
Train: There is no passenger rail service to Freeport; rail is not used for inter-island travel in the Bahamas.
Bus / Local transport: There are no formal city buses; local shuttle vans, taxis and private shuttles are the normal modes for getting between the port, resort areas and downtown Freeport. Short rides inside town are typically under USD 5-20 depending on distance.
