The Freedom Monument in central Riga is a national memorial unveiled in 1935 and designed by sculptor Kārlis Zāle. The monument stands approximately 42 metres high and commemorates those who fought for Latvia’s independence.

How to Get to Freedom Monument #
The Freedom Monument stands on Brīvības bulvāris at the edge of Riga’s Old Town. It is an easy 10-15 minute walk from Riga Central Station or a short ride on many city buses/trams that stop along Brīvības bulvāris; from the Old Town it is a few minutes on foot.

- Visit the Freedom Monument at dawn or after sunset for easier photography and far fewer people than during the daytime when tourists and locals gather.
- Approach the monument from Bastejkalns Park and the canal side for a quieter perspective and to combine the stop with a stroll through the surrounding park instead of just viewing from the main boulevard.
