Frederiksberg Palace

Frederiksberg Palace is a Baroque palace in the Frederiksberg district of Copenhagen, Denmark, built in the early 18th century as a royal summer residence.

The palace is most often visited for its formal façade and terrace and for its relationship to the large public park immediately to the south, Frederiksberg Gardens. The park contains ponds, tree-lined avenues and lawned promenades that are the usual route for visitors approaching the palace.

Construction began in the late 17th century and continued into the early 18th century; the building was used as a royal residence and has been altered and restored in subsequent centuries. The palace and grounds have served both ceremonial and residential roles for Danish royalty over time.

The site sits in the Frederiksberg neighbourhood of Copenhagen, immediately west of the city’s historic centre and within the urban area of Greater Copenhagen, with the main approach through Frederiksberg Gardens.
