Frederiksberg Gardens is a large landscaped public park in the Frederiksberg district immediately west of central Copenhagen, originally laid out as the palace gardens for Frederiksberg Palace in the 18th century. It remains one of Copenhagen’s principal green spaces.

The gardens feature broad lawns, formal ponds and canals, tree-lined promenades and designed viewpoints that look toward the palace. Built elements include the palace itself and ornamental structures such as a Chinese-style summerhouse.

Historically the grounds were developed as a royal landscape and later adapted in the English-romantic style; today the park is used for walking, picnics and leisure activities and lies adjacent to Copenhagen Zoo and other urban attractions.

Frederiksberg Gardens sits within the Frederiksberg municipality, directly west of Copenhagen’s city centre, and is easily accessible from central Copenhagen by public transport and on foot.

Frederiksberg Gardens lies in the Frederiksberg district of Copenhagen, about 2 km west of the city centre. Take the Copenhagen Metro (M1/M2) to Frederiksberg Station or the S‑train to Peter Bangs Vej; both are short walks to the park. From central Copenhagen (Rådhuspladsen) it’s a 20-30 minute walk or a short bike ride.

• Enter from the palace side near Frederiksberg Palace to avoid the busiest sections by the zoo.
• Go early in the morning to catch the light on the canal and to see joggers and rowers before tour groups arrive.
• Bring coins for the old wooden boat rentals on the canal (if available) - they are a small, charming local ritual most guidebooks skip.
• Walk through to the adjacent Copenhagen Zoo for a different rhythm: the zoo's crowds peak later in the day while the gardens are quietest at opening.
