Fort Niagara State Park

Fort Niagara State Park is a New York state park at the mouth of the Niagara River on Lake Ontario that adjoins the historic Old Fort Niagara complex. The location has been a strategic fortified site since the colonial era.

Visitors encounter the historic fortifications of Old Fort Niagara with preserved ramparts and period structures, a museum with exhibits on the site’s military history, and parklands offering river and lakefront views. The grounds provide picnic areas, shoreline access and interpretive signage about the fort’s role controlling the river entrance.

The site contains fortifications dating to the colonial period when French, then British, and later American forces occupied and modified the works; the complex preserves structures and fabric spanning the 17th to 19th centuries. Ownership and use changed with colonial and national conflicts, and the fort is now maintained for public interpretation.
