A Roman military fort and associated settlement located at the modern village of Vechten in the province of Utrecht, Netherlands. It was an important frontier installation on the Rhine-Lek river system during the Roman Empire.
Established by the Romans as a fortification to control river traffic and protect the imperial frontier, the site was occupied during the early Imperial period and developed a civilian vicus beside the military installation. Excavations in the 20th and 21st centuries have revealed timber defences, building remains and material culture linked to 1st to 3rd century AD Roman activity.
Sited on the banks of the Rhine/Lek waterways in central Netherlands, the site lies within the municipality near Vechten in Utrecht province, west of the city of Utrecht.
