Estádio da Luz

Estádio da Luz is the home stadium of Sport Lisboa e Benfica in the Benfica district of Lisbon, Portugal. The current stadium opened in 2003 and seats roughly 65,000 spectators.

The arena is known for its large capacity and steep stands that keep fans close to the pitch; the playing surface is a standard UEFA pitch of about 105 by 68 metres. Matchdays feature strong crowd noise and organized supporters in the lower tiers, while non-match visitors typically come for guided tours and the club museum.

The modern stadium replaced an earlier mid-20th-century ground on the same site and was built to host club matches and major fixtures. Since opening it has been used for domestic and international football events and has hosted major UEFA fixtures.

The stadium sits in western Lisbon’s Benfica neighborhood, a short metro ride from the city centre and within the Lisbon urban area.
