Eski Imaret Mosque is an historic mosque located in the Fatih district of Istanbul within the city’s older quarters. It is part of Istanbul’s dense ensemble of Ottoman-era religious and charitable buildings.
The mosque was originally associated with an imaret - a charitable soup kitchen - and formed part of a broader Ottoman charitable complex serving the local community. Architecturally it reflects Ottoman religious building types adapted to the urban fabric of historic Istanbul.
Over time the complex has undergone repairs and restorations typical of historic structures in the city, with changing uses and conservation work preserving its core forms. Today it stands amid Istanbul’s historic neighbourhoods and is accessed from the surrounding streets and squares.
The mosque is situated on the historic peninsula of Istanbul, in the Fatih municipal district, among other Ottoman monuments and close to the Golden Horn and the old city centre.
