Erawan Shrine

The Erawan Shrine is a small open-air shrine at the Ratchaprasong intersection in central Bangkok that contains a four-faced statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai form of the Hindu god Brahma. It was established in the mid 20th century and has become a prominent place of devotion and ritual in the city.

The shrine is known for frequent offerings of flower garlands, incense and for traditional Thai dancers who perform as acts of gratitude or supplication arranged by worshippers. The compact site attracts both local devotees and many visitors because of its central location and distinctive ritual activity.

The shrine was originally erected during construction-related works in the area in the 1950s and later became a permanent devotional site maintained by local communities and business interests. It has remained a high-profile religious landmark within Bangkok’s busy shopping and hotel district.

The shrine sits at the Ratchaprasong commercial intersection near the Grand Hyatt Erawan and is easily reached from the BTS Skytrain at Chidlom.
