Elizabeth Lookout (Erzsébet-kilátó) is an observation tower on János Hill in the Buda Hills, on the highest hill within Budapest. The tower dates from the early 20th century and serves as a panoramic viewpoint over the city and surrounding hills.
From the tower visitors can see 360-degree views that include the city of Budapest and the rolling Buda Hills; the site is popular for short hikes and day trips from the city. The area around the lookout is crisscrossed by marked trails and picnic spots.
The current stone tower replaced earlier lookout structures and was constructed in the early 1900s as a public viewing point. It has since been maintained as a recreational destination rather than a defensive or military structure.
The lookout sits on János Hill in Pest County within the Buda Hills, on Budapest’s northwestern side, and is part of the city’s extensive urban-forest recreational area.
