About ELETTRA#
ELETTRA is a synchrotron radiation facility and research centre located in the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region of Italy near Trieste. It provides intense X-ray and ultraviolet beams for experiments in materials science, biology and other fields.
A campus of accelerator halls, experimental beamlines and laboratories where user groups run experiments with synchrotron radiation. The complex hosts specialised instruments for X-ray diffraction, spectroscopy and imaging and supports visiting researchers through a proposal-based user programme.
Developed and operated by organisations from the Trieste scientific community, the facility was commissioned in the late 20th century to provide regional access to synchrotron radiation for research and industry.
Located close to Trieste in north-eastern Italy, the site sits in the industrial-scientific area outside the city and is reachable from Trieste and nearby towns.
