How to Get to Elassona
Elassona is best reached via Thessaloniki (SKG) or by rail to Larissa followed by a bus or taxi. The Larissa-Elassona bus connection is the most reliable public link for the final leg.
Thessaloniki Macedonia Airport (SKG): The nearest major international airport for Elassona. Driving from SKG to Elassona takes about 1.5-2 hours (approx. 90-120 km) by car; rental cars and taxis are available at the airport.
Athens Eleftherios Venizelos (ATH): A longer option-drive or take a domestic flight to Thessaloniki and continue by road; overland travel from Athens takes roughly 4-5 hours by car or longer by bus/train with changes.
Train: The nearest significant railway hub is Larissa (Larisa) railway station, one of Thessaly’s major stops on Greece’s main north-south line. From Larissa you can reach Elassona by bus or taxi; the rail trip to Larissa from Thessaloniki is about 1-1.5 hours.
Bus: KTEL regional buses operate services linking Larissa and Elassona (Larissa→Elassona ~40-60 minutes). Buses run several times a day-buy tickets at the Larissa KTEL station or the company office in town.
How to Get Around Elassona #
Elassona’s town centre is compact and largely walkable, with most services and cafés concentrated near the main square. For visiting nearby villages and Mount Olympus access a car is the most convenient option. Intercity KTEL buses connect Elassona with Larissa and other regional towns; taxis operate locally but can be limited, so book in advance for transfers to remote areas.
