Eastern Guizhou Travel Guide

Eastern Guizhou is located in the eastern area of Guizhou Province in the south of China. The main cities of the region include Basha, Conjiang, Kaili, Chejiang and Chong’an.

Eastern Guizhou is known for retaining its traditional culture and the untouched natural landscape is akin to China centuries ago. There are some beautiful nature reserves to visit including the breathtaking Fanjing Shan Nature Reserve. For active travelers, there are numerous adventure tours with challenging treks, climbs and hikes.

Kaili is the main city of the region acting as a cultural hub for the Miao and Doug ethnic minority groups. The surrounding landscape of Kaili is particularly picturesque with impressive mountains covered in thick green foliage. The Miao people have cultural attractions dating back thousands of years some of which can be seen at the Langde Miao Ethnic Minority Village.

One place not too be missed in Eastern Guizhou is the small Miao village of Basha, which is located in the far southeast of the province. The village still retains traditional customs and beliefs and is relatively untouched by western modernization. There are a host of interesting cultural activities to see such as the Miao embroidery factories, which are set in small shop front buildings.

Getting There & Away

Eastern Guizhou has an extensive network of transportation with several regional airports, long distance bus routes and railway lines from major cities. Liping Airport is the main airport and has frequent flights from most major cities including Beijing. Flights from Beijing take approximately an hour. Buses are inexpensive but can be slow and uncomfortable.
