Dykh-Tau is a major peak in the central Greater Caucasus within the Kabardino-Balkaria region of Russia, rising to about 5,205 metres. It is one of the highest mountains in the Caucasus and in Russia.
The mountain is known for its steep, rugged relief and glaciated slopes; its north faces and ridges are technical and attract experienced mountaineers. Routes often include long glacier approaches and mixed rock-ice climbing that require alpine skills and equipment.
Dykh-Tau forms part of the Bezengi Wall of high Caucasus summits and has been a prominent objective in regional mountaineering since the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The massif’s appearance and climbing history reflect intensive use by mountaineering expeditions over the last century.
It sits in the high central Caucasus range in Kabardino-Balkaria, close to the Russian-Georgian border, amid glaciated valleys and high ridgelines.

- Plan any ascent in the main climbing season (mid-summer) and allow several days for acclimatization-Dykh-Tau is a high, glaciated, technical peak that requires careful preparation.
- Approach from the Bezengi/Bezingi valley and organize logistics and route support through experienced local mountain guides; independent attempts require solid alpine ice and mixed-climbing skills.
- Start summit pushes very early in the morning to minimize exposure to typical afternoon storms and changing glacier conditions, and confirm route and weather with guides the day before.

For ascents and safer access, the main climbing season is mid-summer (July-August); outside that window conditions are generally unsafe for climbing.
