Dundrennan Abbey is a ruined Cistercian monastery on the Solway coast in Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, founded in the mid 12th century. The site contains substantial masonry remains of the abbey church and associated monastic buildings.

Key visible elements include the nave and choir foundations, cloister area and fragments of the chapter house and ancillary ranges. The ruins illustrate the plan of a medieval Cistercian house and are a focus for both heritage interest and informal visits.

The abbey was dissolved in the 16th century during the wider religious and political transformations in Scotland and subsequently fell into ruin. Today the site is unmanaged or lightly managed as a historic ruin with roadside access.

Dundrennan sits on the southwestern coast of Scotland within Dumfries and Galloway, close to the small coastal settlements in the area and overlooking farmland to the sea.

From the A75 trunk road take the A711 towards Kirkcudbright and follow local signs to Dundrennan; the site is a short drive from the town centre. Public buses serve Kirkcudbright, but a taxi or car is the simplest way to reach the coastal ruins.

• Wear sturdy shoes; the abbey ruins sit on uneven ground and can be slippery when wet.
• Visit at golden hour for strong low-angle light on the Gothic arches and the crumbling choir stalls.
• Bring binoculars - the tidal flats nearby attract wading birds and the coastline views reward patient observers.
