Dumyat
Mountain Prominent Ochil Hills summit overlooking Stirling
From the Ochil foothills outside Stirling, Dumyat offers a clear summit route, traces of an Iron Age hillfort and broad views across the Forth valley.
Dumyat is a prominent hill on the western edge of the Ochil Hills in central Scotland, rising to about 418 metres. It forms part of the skyline above the city of Stirling and is a familiar local landmark.
The hill’s summit and ridges provide clear 360-degree views, including of the Firth of Forth and the surrounding lowlands; routes to the top are well used and take a few hours from nearby starting points. Walkers also explore visible Iron Age fort remains on the upper slopes.
Archaeological remains on Dumyat indicate historic use as a fortified site during the Iron Age, with later use as grazing and common land. In modern times it has been used for recreation and local hillwalking.
Dumyat sits immediately north of the city of Stirling in central Scotland, forming the western edge of the Ochil range and overlooking the River Forth and the surrounding lowland plain.
- Hiking note: The ascent is a relatively short hike from Stirling-area trailheads and is popular for hillwalking year-round; winter conditions can bring snow and ice above the tree line.
