Doune Castle is a late medieval fortress near the village of Doune in central Scotland, notable for its largely intact curtain walls, keep and great hall. It dates principally to the late 14th century and remains a prominent historic monument.

The castle offers a large, well-preserved great hall, inner chambers and battlement walks that visitors can tour, with panoramic views over the surrounding farmland. Interpretive displays and guided access explain the building’s medieval layout and later history.

Constructed in the late 14th century by Robert Stewart, Duke of Albany, the castle served as a power centre for its owners and later passed to the Crown. It has undergone conservation and is now managed as a historic site open to the public.

Doune Castle stands near the village of Doune in central Scotland, north of Stirling and within the historic county area of Perthshire/Stirling, set amid farmland and small upland rises.

Doune Castle lies near the village of Doune, about 10 miles northwest of Stirling. From Stirling, follow the A84 and A820; there is parking near the castle. Regular bus services run from Stirling to Doune.
