Dresden Porcelain Collection

The Dresden Porcelain Collection (Porzellansammlung) is a major museum display of Meissen and European porcelain housed in the Zwinger palace complex in central Dresden. The collection emphasises fine table services, figurines and painted porcelain from the 18th century onwards.

Gallery rooms present masterpieces of early Meissen production alongside later European porcelain, illustrating changes in styles, decoration and technical development. Objects range from small painted figures to large sculptural table services made for Saxon courts.

The collection originated from princely acquisitions by the Saxon court and expanded through the 18th and 19th centuries; it remains one of the most important porcelain holdings in Europe. Conservation and curatorial work continue to research provenance and technique.

The Zwinger sits in Dresden’s museum district near the Semperoper and the Elbe; the Porcelain Collection is accessed from the palace courtyard and is part of a cluster of cultural institutions in the historic centre.
