Dresden Armoury

The Dresden Armoury (Rüstkammer) is a museum collection of historic arms, armour and military equipment located in Dresden’s Residenzschloss (Royal Palace). Its holdings document European and courtly armoury traditions across several centuries.

Exhibits emphasise parade and tournament armour, ornate helmets, firearms and edged weapons, presented in period rooms that reflect princely display. The collection illustrates craftsmanship, ceremonial use and technological change in arms from the late medieval period through the early modern era.

The core of the collection grew from the Saxon electors’ and royal houses’ armories and was assembled over centuries as a princely collection. Post-war restoration and museum work have conserved and rehoused many pieces in the palace after wartime losses and reconstruction.

The armoury sits within central Dresden’s historic centre, on the Schlossplatz beside other museum buildings and short walking distance from the Elbe River and major city transport links.
